RCS (In Beta)

Rich Communication Services, known as RCS, is a nextgen messaging service designed to replace SMS messages with a text-message system that is more rich, provide phonebook polling (for service discovery), and transmit in-call multimedia. It will provide encrypted feature rich services similar to mobile messaging services such as Facebook Messenger and iMessage.

RCS is significantly more feature rich than SMS.  Users can share location with each other, or attach high-resolution pictures, video and audio to messages. They can create and archive group chats, or remove members from group chats. They can even enable read receipts and typing indicators that show when a message has been read or being typed.

The following standardized services are a part of the specifications of RCS:

  • Standalone Messaging
  • 1-to-1 Chat
  • Group Chat
  • File Transfer
  • Content Sharing
  • Social Presence Information
  • IP Voice call
  • Best Effort Video call
  • Geolocation Exchange
  • Audio Messaging
  • Network based blacklist
  • Capability Exchange based on Presence or SIP
